PHILOSOPHY

The programme is designed to expose students to the basic field of specialization in Physics. It is geared towards the in-depth acquisition of the right type of skills, scientific knowledge, competence and norms in both the theoretical and the experimental aspects of the subjects. This will ensure that the products of the programme are capable of making meaningful contributions towards the realization of the national dream of a sound scientific base for technological and industrial advancement which furthers the Benson Idahosa University’s vision of raising academics, professionals and entrepreneurs, who will be effective disciples for Christ by excelling in their professional fields.

 

OBJECTIVES

The degree programme aims at providing the students with an intellectual environment favourable for the study of Physics and its related disciplines so that at the end of the training the product will be capable of:-

1. Pursuing research in pure/applied Physics in any chosen field.
2. Working in several public establishments such as meteorology department, telecommunication, aviation, energy centers, surveying and medical physics, as well as in private establishments, mining and steel industries and manufacturing plants, and in the development of new materials and other sources of energy.
3. Teaching in order to maintain important cycle of imparting knowledge to future generations of Physicists.
4. Working in supervisory/advisory capacity in industries and other productive sectors of the economy.
5. Converting into the engineering field in such areas as electronics, electrical engineering and computer technology.
6. In addition, physics being fundamental to the proper understanding of other areas of science, the degree programme aims at providing certain course, for students in other departments/units of the University.
