Admission Requirements

CHEMISTRY

100 Level

Candidates to be admitted into the degree programme at the 100 level entry point must possess a minimum of credit level passes at the Senior Secondary School Certificate (or its equivalent) Examinations in at least five subject including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and either Biology or Agricultural Science.

Direct Entry

Candidates admitted through this entry point will spend a minimum of three years and must be holders of NCE with a minimum of credit level passes in Chemistry, Physics, Chemistry/Mathematics or Chemistry/Biology, combinations.

Candidates with at least two GCE “A” level passes in Chemistry and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Chemistry and Biology and holders of OND in Chemistry or Biochemistry are also eligible for consideration. In addition, candidates are required to possess the minimum qualification for entry into the 100 level programme.

COMPUTER SCIENCE

Candidates can be admitted into   the degree programme in Computer Science by one of the following three ways:

  1. The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
  2. Direct Entry
  3. Inter-University Transfer

UTME Entry Mode

The minimum academic requirement is credit level passes in five subjects at O’ Level in nationally recognised examination including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other Life Science subject that is relevant to the intended programme at not more than two sittings. In addition, an acceptable pass in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with relevant subject combination is also required for admission into 100 Level.

Direct Entry Mode

Candidates seeking admission into a programme in Computer Science through Direct Entry must have passes at GCE ‘A’ Level/IJMB or its equivalent in a minimum of two Science subjects relevant to the intended programme to be considered for admission into 200 Level. Candidates with N.C.E Technical, National Diploma or HND with lower credit results in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics/Electronics and/or related field   will also be considered for admission into 200 Level. This is in addition to fulfilling the requirement of a minimum of credit level passes in five relevant subjects at ‘O’ Level as indicated above.

Inter-University Transfer Mode

Students can transfer into 200-Level courses provided they have the relevant qualifications. The University is to certify that the student meet the minimum requirements for the Inter-university Transfer.

GEOPHYSICS

The entry requirements for UTME candidates shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry to form the core subjects with credit in any other relevant science subject, at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) is required.

Candidates with a minimum of two A level passes (graded A-E) at the GCE/IJMB Advanced Level in two relevant subjects (Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics) may be admitted into 200-level through Direct Entry.

MATHEMATICS

  • U. M. E. Entry Requirements:

Candidates must have WASC, GCE ‘O’ Level or Senior Secondary School Certificate with credit passes in at least five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, and any two others  (Economics compulsory for Industrial Mathematics, Physics compulsory for Mathematics)  in not more than two sittings.

  • Direct Entry

In addition to UME requirements the candidates must have at least one of the following qualifications

  1. NCE in Two subject in Mathematics, computer Science, Physics
  2. Ordinary National Diploma (OND), in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Accounting or Data processing.
  3. Advanced level in at least two subjects (Mathematics, physics or Chemistry).

The conditions above should be satisfied in addition to UME requirement in (A)

PHYSICS

UTME

The minimum admission requirements for the four-year degree programme are five credits in English Language, Physics, Mathematics and two other science subjects in not more than two sittings in G.C.E Ordinary level or its equivalence.

DIRECT ENTRY

The minimum admission requirements Direct entry 200L are OND, NCE, G.C.E. Advanced Level passes (or equivalence) in Physics and Mathematics in addition to requirements in (a) above. Candidates with HND in Physics may be considered for direct entry admission to 300L.
