Admission into preliminary courses for a degree in Biochemistry at Benson Idahosa University will be the University Matriculation Examination (UME), which shall be open to candidates who have obtained credits in at least five subjects at the G.C.E. ordinary level or at the West African School Certificate Examination/Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination or equivalent at not more than two sittings. The five subjects obtained must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
In addition to satisfying the matriculation requirements as stated for candidates seeking admission to First Year courses, candidates for direct entry into the second year courses must:
All Biochemistry students shall take common Faculty of Science courses in the first and second years of the programme (i.e. 100 and 200 level courses). Students are expected to go for industrial training (Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme, SIWES), for 6 months at the end of their 1st semester 300 level, Students’ performance during the various posting shall be closely monitored and assessed by both the supervising lecturers from the faculty and the host establishment. Each student is expected to submit a report to the department at the end of the SIWES programme.
