HOD’s Welcome Message

Head of Department

Dr. Chamberlain .C. Egbulefu
Acting Head Of Department

We are so delighted welcoming you to the department of Mass Communication, Benson Idahosa University. This department was established in 2002 alongside five other departments in the Faculty of Social and Management Science.  The focus of the department is to create the enabling environment appropriate for research and learning for both staff and students of the department. We have very experienced academics and committed researchers providing support for our students to acquire the relevant skills and competencies in mass communication, media and communication studies. The vision of the university is to raise leaders that would bring about positive changes in the private and the public sector of the Nigerian economy. This is why in addition to teaching the approved courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC), we also teach our students entrepreneurial skills and Christian ethics (making our graduates not only being sound academically, but also worthy in character reflecting admirable moral virtues wherever they are). We have some of our graduates already creating jobs, contributing to the Nigerian economy, while many others are occupying strategic/leadership positions in the media and communication industries. We have a stream of commendation letters coming in from world class universities abroad on the excellent performance of our graduates in the postgraduate examinations, endorsing the realization of the vision and the mission of Benson Idahosa University.

I would therefore gladly invite you to collaborate with us as we raise a generation of leaders whose focus would be  to restore dignity to humanity in Africa using the platform provided by the media and the various social networking sites. To our prospective students, you are welcome to the department of Mass Communication, Benson Idahosa University being the Island of excellence of the Nigerian tertiary institutions offering mass communication programme.
