Welcome to the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Our mission is to offer quality and relevant academic programmes, towards the in-depth acquisition of technical skills and scientific knowledge in both the theoretical and experimental aspects, which furthers the Benson Idahosa University’s vision of raising academics, professionals and entrepreneurs and carry out research by partnering with the industry.

Our students undergo industrial training to acquire the relevant technical and communication skills. We provide supportive and friendly environment for our students. A course adviser is assigned to all levels of the programme who is always available to discuss any difficulties with regards to their studies.

Upon completion of the undergraduate programme, the students are in position to continue their studies in graduate school of their choice or get a job in the industry. The specialized options to continue their studies in Electrical and Electronics Engineering are:

  • Electronics and Telecommunications Option
  • Power and Machines Option
  • Instrumentation and control Systems Option and any related options

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the bachelors in engineering of Electrical/Electronics Engineering degree
programme is geared towards the development of technical manpower of academic and practical
competence in electrical and electronic engineering with high moral standard for sustaining the
growing economic of Nigeria. It is designed towards the in-depth acquisition of technical skills
and scientific knowledge in both the theoretical and experimental aspects, which furthers the
Benson Idahosa University’s vision of raising academics, professionals and entrepreneurs, who
will be effective disciples for Christ by excelling in their professional fields.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the programme are:

  1. To provide a highly motivated academic environment that encourages the academically
    minded to pursue further studies and research in electrical/electronic engineering.
  2. To produce engineers to meet the commercial, industrial, educational and technological manpower needs of Nigeria.
  3. To produce engineering graduates to be at-par with the rapid changing electrical and
    electronic industry.
  4. To train engineers who can provide the technical support base for the electric power
    industries.
  5. To produce design engineers with high academic and innovation interests in
    electrical/electronic engineering.
  6. To contribute to the supply of academic and professional electrical/electronic engineers
    both for Nigerian Universities and industries.
