Students Supervision and Advice

For Academic Advice

Lecturers are allocated to different levels to serve as course advisers and attend to students’ academic problems. Students see the Head of Department when the need arises, especially where the course adviser is unable to offer the required solution.

Counseling Service

The university has a Students’ Service Unit (SS) that counsels the student on problems relating to that personal, spiritual, social, and emotional need. To complement this, the Students’ Service Unit also organizes Chapel services on weekly basis, for members of the university every Friday.

Research Efforts of Staff

The department has recorded steady progress in the area of research since its inception. Members of staff of the department have conducted researches and published works in both local and international journals.  There is a gradual development of research in the field of semiotics. Collaboratively the conference of the Nigeria Association for Semiotics Studies was hosted in 2007. Another semiotics conference was held in December 2009. Also there is EELTAN (Edo State English Language Teachers Association of Nigeria) being formed in collaboration with the British Council.  There is a gradual build up of a collection of books for the use of staff and students in the Departmental Library and also in the main Library.
