Research Interests

My current research interest covers mainly Public Health and Environmental Microbiology. The investigation of microbial, physical and chemical pollutants in the environment (soil, water, air and food) and their impact on public health and the integrity of the environment with special emphasis on poverty alleviation and sustainable development is at the core of my research interest. In Public Health Microbiology I am interested in the antibiogram and molecular epidemiology of microbial pathogens (Listeria, Vibrio, Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, Campylobacter, etc) with emphasis on the relationship between environmental and epidemic strains and their impact on the public health. I am also passionate about the use of Bioinformatics as a tool for tracking and managing the spread of infectious diseases via a thorough understanding of the genomics, proteomics and metabolomics of pathogens. My areas of interest in Environmental Microbiology include water and wastewater quality; biodegradation and bioremediation studies; Pollution monitoring and Environmental Impact assessment.
